TMJ THERAPY

Are you experiencing excessive jaw discomfort, frequent headaches, or sensitive teeth? Your temporomandibular joint (TMJ) may be the cause of these problems. Your TMJ is the hinge in front of your ears that connects your jaw to your skull. It allows your jaw to move backward, forward, and side-to-side.

Temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD) usually stems from a misaligned bite. This bite misalignment can cause a variety of issues that can be painful and uncomfortable. At Michael E. Sullivan, DDS, PC, we have TMJ treatment plans to help relieve your pain and improve your jaw’s health.

TMJ Disorder Symptoms

If you’re experiencing any of the following, you may have TMJ disorder. However, we won’t be able to officially diagnose TMD without an in-office consultation.

  • Frequently occurring headaches
  • Locked jaw when opening or closing mouth
  • Popping or clicking when chewing
  • Tenderness in the cheeks and jaw area

Contact our office to schedule your consultation. Our experienced dentist, Dr. Sullivan, can examine and X-ray your mouth and jaw for TMJ issues. The sooner we see you, the sooner we can diagnose your problem and provide you with a treatment plan!

Treatment for TMD

If we determine that your TMJ is the source of your pain and discomfort, we offer a wide range of treatment plans to correct the issue and alleviate your pain. From minor TMD cases to severe ones, we’re equipped to help you get the relief you need.

Since problems with the TMJ vary, the solution may be anywhere from a cold compress and pain killers to a nightguard for teeth clenching and teeth grinding to restorative care to realign your bite. Whatever your situation may be, we provide personalized, advanced treatments to restore your jaw back to health and full-functionality.
